The Seven Sisters or so called in Russia Vysotki or Stalinskie Vysotki are a group of seven skyscrapers in Moscow designed in the Stalinist pompous style and built in Moscow after the Second  World War. Today these buildings have become one of the official symbols of Moscow like Red Square or VDNKH. And of course in every building is located something serious or important for Moscow and Russia, including people who have apartments in Vysotkas living areas. As it is known in Moscow, in Soviet Period Vysotky were areas where always settled Russian Elite, politicians, diplomats, artists, intellectuals and other famous people.

Moscow State University

It is the main building of world famous Moscow State University, located at Sparrow Hills. Till 90s it was the tallest building in Europe with 0ver 230 meters high. Anyway today it is still the highest building but in education domain.

Hotel Ukraina (The Ukraine hotel) today is called Radisson Royal Hotel

It is the  second tallest building with 190 meters +,  and with over 30 floors, located in front of  The House of the Government of the Russian Federation the Moscow White House. At first famous Moscow hotel Ukraine was located there. Today after inner reconstruction it is Radisson Royal Hotel popular among diplomats and Moscow’s privileged guests.

A Short History Of Moscow Foundation

Moscow is one of the largest cities in Russia, which was founded in the 12th century and subsequently united the whole country. Moscow became the capital in the 16th century and continues to be today.

Moscow was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky on the Borovitsky Hill at the confluence of two rivers –the Moscow River and Neglinnaya River. The advantageous geographical location of the city has become one of the main reasons for economic independence and political influence.

Historical settlement and the Foundation of Moscow

There is little information about the territory of modern Moscow before its construction. However, it is known that at the site of the present Cathedral of Christ the Savior, before the Foundation of Russia were Dyakovo settlement, who considered the first settlements on this land. Later, shortly before the emergence of the Russian state, Finno-Ugric tribes who lived along the shore in scattered hamlets chose these lands. Soon, there began to appear a Slavic village and villages of Vyatichi.

In Moscow there are three accommodation zones. Most expensive living area is inside Garden Ring road (1)where historical part of the city is located.  Today it is also the slowest part of the city because of heavy traffic. Narrow streets built many centuries ago can't host today millions of cars.

Another one area is located between Garden Ring road and Third Ring Road (2). This part of the city is much calmer, in most cases much cheaper. Basically, the far from Kremlin and historical center of Moscow you apartment is the less you pay for your rent.

Third zone is between Third Ring road and MKAD (3)MKAD- Road Moscow Automobile Ring Road - is a boarder ring road at the end of Moscow. We also have New Moscow area - new territories after MKAD which joined Moscow in 21 Century. 1. Moscow cake. Contest. Love

Moscow is not just the historical and main city of the country, but gastronomical capital. From September 2016, Moscow has its own cake. The cake was chosen by 150 thousand of citizens during ‘Moscow autumn’ fest. There were nearly 15 different cakes, each of different filling and design. The degustation was hold by the Head of trade and service Department, Aleksey Nemeryuk.
Moscow cake consists from the four proteinaceous cake layers interbedded by cream on to basis of boiled condensed milk with addition of a filbert. The surface of cake is decorated by red brilliant glaze. Today, cake is popular meal among citizens and guests. Coffee shops, special kiosks and shops in the centre of the city- places where you may taste it. 

 

2. Famous Alyonushka. Pretty Girl. Souvenir 
Alyonka chocolate is one of the best-selling brands in Russia. One the loved tourist gifts and souvenirs. It’s great association with country and its Soviet past. It is certainly the most popular and biggest selling domestically produced candy in Russia’s history. There are many ‘Alyonka choco bars’ are opening in Moscow today. Guests can taste different sorts of candy with hot and delicious coffee and tea. Success of Alyonka chocolate is a reason of the past. In production since 1965, Alyonka chocolates were the byproducts of a special socialist food program implemented by the Soviet regime to mass produce affordable (not to be confused with widely available) chocolate. To find the right packaging and fresh face for the new chocolate bar, Russia’s Red October Chocolate Factory announced a formal competition in a central Moscow-based newspaper. The winner was a photo of a young girl, submitted by an artist who actually worked at the factory. Following the release of the now infamous blue-eyed baby in a traditional head kerchief on the package, rumors circulated that the adorable little girl was actually Svetlana Allilueva — Joseph Stalin’s own daughter.

Matryoshka doll

Truly symbol of national handcraft. It is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size which are placed one inside another. "Matryoshka" is a diminutive form from old Slavic Russian name "Matryona". Matryoshkas appeared in Russia at the end of the 19th century. Traditional print of Matryoshka dolls is a woman, dressed in Russian national dress. As we have mentioned, Matryoshka is a set of several dolls and all of them follow the same theme. Themes may be very different from classical peasant women up to fairy tales motives and popular modern themes like the Russian Government, New Year and Christmas motives, Russian cities motives or some funny themes etc.

The Kuskovo estate belonged to the earls Sheremetev and was intended for magnificent receptions of crowded, theatrical festivals, and festivities.

In 1919 the estate became a Museum, and since 1938 (after the transfer to Kuskovo Russia's only Ceramics Museum) was renamed “the State Museum of Ceramics and "Kuskovo." Today it is one of the world's largest holders of ceramics and glass collections of different countries from antiquity to modern times.
Annually, the Museum organizes exhibitions: concerts of classical music, following the old tradition of the estate of the celebrations, receptions, and festivals.

One-day trip to a beautiful place, situated though in the city but far from traffic jams, busy streets and thousands of people, might be the best way to spend a weekend in Moscow. One of the possible destinations is Arkhangelskoye estate: a 19th century complex of palaces and gardens, located around 20 km to the west of Moscow and 2 km southwest of Krasnogorsk.

The estate has seen many owners, all of whom were heads of noble families, close to the crown. Arkhangelskoye's oldest building is now the church of Archangel Michael of the early 17th century.

In the 19th century the estate belonged to the Yusupov family – one of the richest families in Russia, who also owned a famous (for some – infamous) palace in the center of St.Petersburg, where G.Rasputin was killed, and many other less well-known houses. The Yusupovs were people of a good taste; they appreciated the power of art, so they turned the territory into a picturesque series of houses and parks and gathered a unique collection of fine art including paintings, sculptures, furniture, ceramics and interior. Today all this can be enjoyed at the museum in the main building.
